Clothes, Clothes, Clothes. Music, Music, Music. Boys, Boys, Boys
By: Viv Albertine

Autobiographies can be wickedly cool. As is the case with in-the-middle-of-it Slits guitarist Viv Albertine. She grew up in the British Punk scene while being a huge fan of Yoko Ono and John Lennon = open-minded artistic sort meets anarchy.

Admittedly, she’s not my kind of friend, but, what fun she had being so emotionally vague and fashionably forward, while making herself learn that guitar-thing!

Viv writes honestly about her poor childhood and its affects – often self-admitted or not. In a very neat step, Viv ads what she was wearing at any given time to her tale. To many this may seem odd. But, to gals into the late ‘70s punk fashion, it’s like a muse of Vivian Westwood dolloping an already swell read with the proverbial Warhol-esque cherry atop; clothes over food could be Albertine’s motto.

You get some insight of how she began her role in the punk scene and a few famous beaus she hung with. I still have to stop and gag over Johnny Rotten’s “stale” genitals. Um, kinda knew it…but, now it’s burned into my cranium. And loved to read about Mick Jones and his remarkable self awareness and willingness to "fade" into backgrounds to let his music breath life; many Clash fans get what I mean, and I adore Strummer...

This is one helluva story by one helluva tough vulnerable chickbabe. And, it’s not just for chicks. But, yeah, its bend is more girl chat. Absorb and enjoy Clothes, Clothes, Clothes. Music, Music, Music. Boys, Boys, Boys
